Top 10 Podcasts I Can't Stop Listening to
We live in a podcast era and I’m not mad about it. However, it seems like EVERYONE is starting a podcast these days, heck, I even contemplated it for minute! I guess there’s a lot out there to chat about!
It’s so strange to me, because as of late, I’ve been cranking up the podcasts in my car more than music (who am I?!). I like that they make me think AND it makes time in the car go by so much faster! With that being said, I wanted to give you all my top 10 podcast picks and why I love them!
1. Absolutely Not” with Heather McMahan
I’ve recently fallen in love with Heather McMahan as a person via Instagram, and when I found out she had a podcast, I was SO in. She is HYSTERICAL, as real as they come and so down to earth. This podcast is basically her keeping it real with whatever is going on in her life. She also asks her listeners to call in, leave their best “absolutely not (or absolutely yes)” voicemails and she addresses them on the podcast. It’s like a big bowl of ice cream that you don’t want to end!
2. “Your Own Backyard” by Chris Lambert
If you’re a fan of true crime anything, then you’ve GOT to give this a listen! This particular podcast hits pretty close to home because it’s about the missing Cal Poly student, Kristin Smart, who disappeared back in 1996 and has never been found. Why does it hit close to home? I went to Cal Poly just seven years after this incident all while the investigation was (and still is) ongoing. It’s really crazy to hear him talk about familiar places around campus, town, and the surrounding areas. It gives me the chills every time I listen!
3. “Office Ladies” with Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey
Are you a fan of the show The Office? I sure am and this new podcast is pure Office gold! Each week, Jenna Fischer (Pam) and Angela Kinsey (Angela) deep dive into a single episode starting from season 1, the pilot. They let you in on all kinds of Office secrets, “fast facts” as they call them all while reliving those moments themselves. Sometimes they’ll even bring on a guest to give a little more insight into the show. It’s a great concept for a podcast and I look forward to listening each week!
4. “Minor Adventures with Topher Grace” with Topher Grace
Topher Grace, best known for his role as Eric on That 70’s Show, among many other TV/Film accomplishments. What could HIS podcast possibly be about? Let me tell you. It’s probably one of the most unique shows I’ve come across and I can’t stop listening. Topher alongside a new celebrity guest each episode completes a specific type of “minor adventure” while being recorded. Such adventures include speed dating, taking a lie detector test, telemarketing, narrating movie trailers, learning how to DJ and so many other wild adventures. The best part about this is the celebrity guest has NO idea what the adventure is until they come into studio. It’s honestly so hysterical and refreshing!
5. “Andrea Savage: A Grown-Up Woman #buttholes” with Andrea Savage
Yes, you read that correctly and it’s pretty hilarious that this is her ACTUAL podcast title. That sets a precedent for what the show is really like. I’m fairly new to this podcast but fell in love VERY quickly. Andrea Savage, creator and star of the show “I’m Sorry” on TruTV & Netflix, has created this podcast to pass time in between filming seasons of her show. Each episode, she introduces a weird, hilarious, and unique “grown up” celebrity guest to prove that even though you’re technically an “adult,” you don’t have to be a total loser. The antics that happen in the first episode are laugh out loud funny! Like I said, I was instantly hooked!
6. “Lauren Conrad: Asking For a Friend” with Lauren Conrad
I LOVE LC and have been a fan of her since the early days of Laguna Beach and have really enjoyed watching her career blossom over the years. She seems so genuine and kind and a person you would want on your team! This podcast is just a sweet breath of fresh air. Each episode she proceeds with a question “asking for a friend” from topics like beauty, decor, and organization, to photography tips and exploring dating apps. She doesn’t do it alone though - each episode she brings on a pro in that specific category and asks them ALLLL the questions we have. She takes specific questions from her audience and asks those as well. It’s very interesting and the conversations are very raw and innocent. I’ve learned a lot just listening to this podcast, so it’s definitely worth your time.
7. “LIKEtoKNOW.it Influencer Radio” with Amber Venz Box
Ladies - do you use the LIKEtoKNOW.it app/feature or have you heard about it? It’s the hottest app out there for tracking all your favorite influencer’s outfits, home goods, makeup, etc. - it’s revolutionized the way we’re able to shop online. Amber Venz Box is the co-founder of the company “rewardSTYLE” which is the largest influencer platform in the world, empowering 45,000 influencers worldwide to provide for themselves and their families. What makes this podcast so special? It’s a place where Amber interviews some of your favorite influencers and really dives in to what exactly made them who they are today. It’s very interesting to hear the backgrounds of some of the people I follow daily and understand their brands and why they’re in this business. It’s a tough industry, but so many of these ladies have figured it out and it’s inspiring to hear their stories.
8. “Be There in Five” with Kate Kennedy
Do you follow Kate on social? If you don’t, you should - @bethereinfive
I discovered Kate through a mutual friend of ours and ever since, she has become one of my regular gals I like to check in with. Her social media platform and podcast go hand in hand where she discusses all facets of pop-culture in a very though provoking, analytical, editorialized, and comedic format. She doesn’t hold back, but in a good, positive way. She also knows everything there is to know Taylor Swift and gives us her own insight into every T-Swift theory out there. Her episodes are purposely long-form, so if you’re someone who travels a lot in their car or needs something to listen to while you’re doing stuff around the house, then this is great for you!
9. “Business Wars” by Wondery, hosted by David Brown
Now, let’s get a little bit more intellectual. Have you ever wondered about certain companies and their competitors? For Example, Netflix vs. Blockbuster or Hasbro vs. Mattel or even McDonald’s vs. Burger King - the list goes on and on and in this podcast you discover how these businesses began and how they’ve shaped the world we live in. Business Wars gives you the real story of what drives these companies and their leaders, inventors, investors and execs to new heights, or ruins. Each “war” is almost like like a mini-series within the podcast - a few episodes each. I gotta tell you, “Cereal Wars” was a great one considering OUR family business has essentially contributed to many players that game.
10. “My Favorite Murder” with Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark
SSDGM - Stay Sexy & Don’y Get Murdered, their official tagline! Back to true crime, if you’re a fan, then you will LOVE this podcast. Each episode is comprised of Karen & Georgia’s favorite tales of murder as well as sharing hometown crime stories submitted by friends and fans. Every story is TRUE, which makes it all that more interesting. Believe it or not, I have learned a LOT about history from the podcast and it has also created awareness for myself. Together, these two have toured, published a book and have incredibly DIE-HARD fans tp which they refer to as their “fan cult” - they even have merch ya’ll. This podcast never gets old and will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time!
